How it works

Drop a photo, logo or lettering. High-contrast pictures make the cleanest stencils.
Set the stencil width in mm. Dark areas become cut-outs; the threshold is found automatically and can be fine-tuned.
Keep bridges on: parts that would fall out, like the middle of an O or a B, are tied to the sheet with strips of the width you choose (orange in the preview).
Download SVG for Cricut, Silhouette or Inkscape, DXF for a laser or CNC, or a PNG to print and cut by hand.

Good to know

A stencil has only two tones: fine gradients and soft shadows are lost. Bold, high-contrast pictures work best.
Bridges are straight strips to the nearest part of the sheet; for decorative work you may want to move them in Inkscape or your cutter software.
Very thin lines and tiny details can be too fragile to cut at small sizes; raise the speck size or make the stencil larger.

What are stencil bridges?

Thin strips of the stencil sheet that keep enclosed parts attached, like the middle of an O. Without them those parts fall out when you cut and the letter loses its shape. The tool finds every such part and adds bridges automatically.

How wide should bridges be?

1 to 2 mm suits paper and vinyl, 2 to 3 mm suits card and plastic sheet, and wider bridges suit large wall stencils. Thicker bridges are sturdier but show more in the paint.

Which file do I need for Cricut or a laser?

SVG for Cricut Design Space, Silhouette Designer Edition and Inkscape; DXF for laser software, CNC and Silhouette Basic. Both are made at the width you set, in millimetres.
