How it works

Drop a PDF file or tap to choose one. It opens on this page; no app or plugin is needed.
Scroll through the pages, zoom with the buttons or Ctrl and the mouse wheel, and open the Pages panel to jump by thumbnail.
Type in the search box to find a word; the arrows step through every match.
To write on the document, press Write on PDF. Download saves the original, or the edited copy if you changed it.

What people use it for

Opening a PDF on a computer where Adobe Reader is not installed, such as a work or school PC.
Reading a long manual or contract and finding every place a term appears.
Copying a paragraph out of a PDF into an email or a document.
Checking a file on a phone before sending it on.
Studying lecture notes or a textbook chapter: highlight, add notes, and search for every place a topic comes up.

Good to know

Scanned PDFs are images: their text cannot be searched or copied until you run PDF OCR.
Interactive forms are shown but not filled here; use PDF Form Filler for that.
Embedded video, 3D models and JavaScript inside a PDF are not run.
There is no print button: download the file and print it from your system viewer.

Frequently asked questions

How do I open a PDF file online?

Drop the file on this page or choose it from your device. It opens straight away in the browser, with zoom, page thumbnails and search. Nothing is installed and the file is not uploaded.

Is it safe to open private PDFs here?

Yes. The PDF is read by the pdf.js engine inside your own browser tab. It never leaves your device, and closing the tab removes it from memory.

Can I search for a word inside a PDF?

Yes. Type the word in the search box and press Enter. Every match is highlighted and the arrows jump between them, across all pages.

Can I write or draw on the PDF while viewing it?

Yes. Press Write on PDF to bring up the tools: pen, highlighter, text, shapes, white-out and image. Download then saves a copy with your marks.

Do password-protected PDFs open?

Yes. You are asked for the password and the file opens for reading. To edit it, remove the password first with Unlock PDF.

Can I use it to study or teach?

Yes. Highlight and write notes while you read, open Present for a full-screen lesson with a laser pointer, or switch to the Board tab to lay several pages side by side and explain around them.
